monalisaAn Italian researcher thinks he’s finally found the answer to one of the most debated riddles in the art world…

Silvano Vincenti says the model used by Leonardo DaVinci for his infamous Mona Lisa painting may be Gian Giacomo Caprotti – aka Salai – an apprentice and, most art historians agree, probably also a lover of DaVinci’s. DaVinci is said to have conducted relationships with a number of his male apprentices and mentors.

Previous theories about the identity of the model have included DaVinci’s mother, a local prostitute or even a self-portrait.
