Three men have been arrested in connection to the violent beating of Burke Burnett last weekend in Reno, Texas.
Burke Burnett was stabbed several times with a broken beer bottle before being thrown onto a fire, whilst attackers allegedly taunted him with homophobic slurs.
Police are still ascertaining whether or not this is a hate crime.
33 year-old Daniel Martin, and 31 year-old James ‘Tray’ Laster III, were arrested on Tuesday 1 November.
The third man, 25 year-old Micky Joe Smith, was later arrested on Wednesday.
All three men are expected to face the same charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and casing serious bodily injury. The attackers could face up to 20 years in prison.
Lamar County District Attorney Gary Young said: “We’re in the process of receiving all the information as a result of the investigation.”
“We will present all that information to the grand jury, including all the information as to whether it’s a hate crime or not.”
Mr Burnett is said to be relieved that several arrests have been made.
