In a revelation which has shocked the world of teenage sleuthing, producer Tony Cervone has confirmed that Scooby Doo’s Velma Dinkley, she of the orange sweater and black specs, is a lesbian.
The news has come as a devastating blow to Shaggy, real name Norville Rogers, who has long been suspected of nurturing a longstanding affection for the diminutive crime fighter. The couple dated briefly but it is doubtful that the relationship was ever consummated.
At the time of writing, Mr Rogers is reported to be holed up in the basement of a spooky gothic house on the top of a cliff, comforting himself with a never ending supply of scooby snacks.
Responding to an Instagram tiff between two fans, which had portrayed Velma and the character of Marcie Fleach in a romantic relationship, Cervone wrote, “I’ve said this before, but Velma in Mystery Incorporated is not bi. She’s gay.
“We always planned on Velma acting a little off and out of character while she was dating Shaggy because that relationship was wrong for her and she had unspoken difficulty with the why. There are hints about the why in that episode with the mermaid, and if you follow the entire Marcie arc it seems as clear as we could make it 10 years ago.”
