Presenter Sandi Toksvig was amongst the big winners who took home gongs from the 2018 Barclays DIVA Awards.
The Bake Off star scooped the Broadcaster of the Year award at the glittering ceremony at Hilton Waldorf, for her commitment to making a difference to the lesbian, trans and bisexual community.
She was joined by YouTube supercouple Rose & Rosie, who scored the coveted Online Influencer of the Year award, Labour’s Dawn Butler MP who was awarded Ally of the Year, and British boxer Nicola Adams who won Sports Personality of the Year.
The Barclays DIVA Awards, hosted by The L Word legend Rachel Shelley and Marcella and Different For Girls star Victoria Broom, honour those who make a difference to the lesbian, trans and bisexual community.
Other winners included Getty’s Dawn Airey who won Business Leader of the Year, Lucy Spraggan who picked up Musician of the Year, Dr Elly Barnes MBE who was awarded Activist of the Year and BBC favourite Holby City took home the LGBT Series/Storyline of the Year.
The BBC programme featured a storyline on consultant general surgeon Serena (played by Catherine Russell) and trauma surgeon Bernie (played by Jemma Redgrave) that captivated the nation when they locked lips last year.
Linda Riley, founder of Barclays DIVA Awards and publisher of DIVA magazine said: “The DIVA Awards is a fantastic event that honours those who are committed to raising awareness for the lesbian, trans and bisexual communities. We’re proud of everyone who won big tonight and all of the shortlisters involved – each and every one of them make a difference to the LGBTQ+ community.”
