Jay Kamiraz – aka Mr Fabulous – has a life story which reads like a film, so the fact the the singer, activist and Pride of Britain award winner is telling his story on screen at the London Creative Showcase may not come as much of a surprise.

Leicester Square’s Prince Charles cinema will host Mr Fabulous, Behind the Glitterball, on 9th September. Commissioned by Westminster Unison, the short film charts Jay’s compelling first hand experience of hate  crime, coming out, mental health awareness and sexual identity and dealing with  people’s perceived assumptions and attitudes towards him.

Some of us have to lead the way to  change, devoting our life to helping inspire others, finding different ways, using creative  media and film as an alternative platform to get our voices heard.

– Jay Kamiraz, aka Mr Fabulous

Mr Fabulous tells the story of one man’s battles overcoming a horrific homophobic attack, sexual prejudice, racial stigma and inequality. It charts his rise to fame and the evolution of  his calling as a positive role model, using his platform as a British South Asian, gay, queer, androgynous man to create and campaign for visibility and be a voice of empowerment channelled via his public persona “Mr Fabulous”.

Mr Fabulous commented, “When big events like Pride in London get cancelled, many find themselves silenced, unable to be seen visibly campaigning to live their lives freely and equally, celebrating  everything that LGBTQIA stands for.

“This is why some of us have to lead the way to  change, devoting our life to helping inspire others, finding different ways, using creative  media and film as an alternative platform to get our voices heard. I let my experience do the  teaching, helping give strength and encouragement to others fighting to live their life, their truth.”

An ambassador for The Prince’s Trust, Mr Fabulous has the support of the trust, with Clarence House – the official London residence and office of HRH The Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall – agreeing to promote the film on their social media channels, while James Bond and Mamma Mia star Pierce Brosnan has recorded a personal message.
