If you have a dog and you love them to pieces, you probably want the best for them. If you’re one of those people who see their dogs as a true part of their family, you probably also want to give them the same standard of living as yourself. Building a perfect puppy room could be the best way to make them feel appreciated and live a happy and comfortable life. But where to start? Let’s take a look at how you can build a beautiful, luxurious space for your dog.

Choose the right room.

First, make sure that you pick the right room. Don’t assume that a dog would prefer bigger spaces, because they don’t. Most prefer smaller spaces as they are much more similar to the small dens their ancestors used to live in. You want to make sure that the space is as quiet and comfortable as possible. Enclosed spaces are also better for dogs.

There are many rooms that could be transformed into a dog room. Laundry rooms, guest rooms, and even walk-ins are all great options.

Make sure that it’s safe.

Next, you want to make sure that the space is safe for the dog. This is especially important if you have a small dog. Make sure that there are no exposed wires. If there’s a radiator, you have to make sure that you always keep the thermostat at a safe temperature in case they decide to touch or lick it. Also, make sure the room is free of cleaning supplies or food.

Make it comfortable.

The bed should be the focal point of any dog room. Dogs sometimes spend more than half of the day sleeping and they deserve a good bed.

Here, you will have to take the age of the dog into consideration and its level of activity. An older dog may need an orthopedic bed, for instance. If they’re starting to get incontinent, make sure that you choose a bed that is water resistant. If they’re young and energetic, there are bunk beds available. You could also have a small crate with a few pillows if it’s a small dog or a pup.

If you want to go all out, we suggest you check out the Versace homeware collection at SSENSE. Versace Home has everything from dog leashes and collars, to robes and a variety of dog inspired decoration pieces. Versace decor also has a selection of dog pillows that will look good either in the dog’s room or anywhere around the house.

Create a nice audio-visual environment.

If you want to keep your dog stimulated, you have to create an interesting visual and audio landscape for them. Dogs love TV just as much as humans, and sometimes even more, so don’t assume that a TV is only good for a child’s room. Dogs love nature shows in particular and it allows them to reconnect with their wild side, so leaving the TV on a channel like Animal Planet will keep your dog happy and entertained.

Another thing you should pay special attention to is the lighting. Nice soothing lighting will allow them to fall asleep more easily and put them in a calm mood if they’re over excited. Classical music and nature sounds can also be a great way to calm an anxious dog, so consider adding good speakers as well. Just make sure that they’re wireless and out of their reach.

Have a few toys too.

You can’t just leave them with a television, however. The more toys they have, the happier they will be. They’ll also be less overactive. Dogs need both physical and mental stimulation, so if you want them to have fun whether you’re there or not, stock their room with nice puzzle games.

If you’re looking for options, we suggest you check out treat pods. These can be filled with treats and they will get a reward every time they solve a puzzle. This could be great for both young pets or aging dogs so they can remain sharp.

Don’t forget to add a couple of chew toys as well. Some dogs have a stronger bite drive than others, so make sure to choose the right kind of toy and have plenty of them so they don’t start taking it out on the furniture.

Add surveillance.

If you want to keep an eye on your dog when you’re in the house or out and about, you also need to have some surveillance equipment. You can use a webcam for this, but we would suggest you pick up something like the Furbo dog camera that allows you to speak with your dog from a distance and even give them treats.

If you were looking to build a dream dog room for your pet, we hope this has given you some inspiration. Make sure to focus on safety first and create a space they’ll look forward to going to.
