Sinead O’Connor is recovering after taking an overdose last Thursday.
The singer has claimed that she attempted suicide while in Los Angeles last week, and tried to kill herself again on Tuesday.
She told The Sun: “I took an overdose. God wants me around – though I can’t think why.”
The singer appealed to her Twitter followers for psychiatric help and was inundated with contact details for practices in her home county in Ireland.
O’Connor has implied via Twitter that she has been finding it difficult to cope with the public backlash to her whirlwind marriage, split and reunion with fourth husband Barry Herridge.
