Polari has been awarded a grant from Arts Council England, to help fund a major 22 date tour. 

The Polari Prize Tenth Anniversary Tour will showcase writers long and shortlisted for this year’s Polari Prize awards for emerging and established LGBTQ+ literary talent, as well as previous winners from the Prize’s ten year history, dating back to 2011.

The tour will kick off at Huddersfield Literature Festival on March 25, followed by York Literature Festival on March 26, and will continue until February 2021.

The centrepiece of the tour will be a special event at London’s Southbank Centre, when this year’s Prize winners will be announced as part of this year’s London Literature Festival.

The tour will also include events in Birmingham, Bradford, Canterbury, Edinburgh, Hastings, Newcastle and at London’s legendary nightclub Heaven and gay sauna Sweatbox Soho.

Polari Prize 2020

The Polari Prize 2020 is now open for submissions.

Judges for the 2020 Polari First Book prize are author and 2019 Prize winner Angela Chadwick; writer and performer Cerys Evans; author and former Head of Literature & Spoken Word at Southbank Centre Rachel Holmes; and poet and performer Keith Jarrett.

Judges for the 2020 Polari Book Prize are CEO of the National Centre for Writing Chris Gribble; literary critic Suzi Feay;  author and performer VG Lee; and poet and 2019 Prize winner Andrew McMillan.

The chair for both prizes is author and founder Paul Burston.

The Polari First Book Prize is sponsored by award-winning arts communications company FMcM Associates, with the winner receiving a cheque for £1,000. The submission fee is £15.

The Polari Prize is sponsored by D H H Literary Agency, with the winner receiving a cheque for £2,000. The submission fee is £25.

The longlists will be announced on June 23 and the shortlists on July 31, both at the Southbank Centre.

The deadline for submissions is April 30.
