A visit to the Sous Chef website will lead you down a rabbit hole of kitchen products and ingredients that you might not have heard of but you then discover you really need.

Created in 2012 by Nicola Lando as a solution to the problem of not finding the range or quality of ingredients she wanted to cook with in the shops, Sous Chef now offers over 5,000 carefully selected products from around the world.

The website is arranged into easy to navigate sections including ingredients, cookware, tableware and gifts and you can also shop by cuisine making sourcing ingredients for a dinner party incredibly easy. If Japanese food sparks your interest for example, everything you need to make sushi, ramen or sake can be found alongside a large index of recipes so you can source ingredients and accessories at the same time as planning your meal.

I had the pleasure of sampling some of the more unusual ingredients such as the Callebaut Dark Chocolate Couverture 70% which made the most wonderfully indulgent chocolate brownies, creamy hot chocolate and a few drops even went into some home-made granola, Fiasconaro Almond Cream which is like a naughty version of almond butter and was heavenly spread on breakfast waffles with strawberries and edible Rose Petals which made a lemon drizzle cake so much more special and impressive.

With Christmas on the horizon, now is a great time to search for some thoughtful yet more unusual gifts for your loved ones. And if you’re lucky they will invite you to one of their dinner parties created with some of the Sous Chef range.
