The former captain of Uganda’s female rugby team, Lilian Ikulmet has been granted asylum in Germany.
After her sexuality became public knowledge she was harassed by Ugandan sports officials, she was also raped, beaten and discriminated against because of her sexuality.
Ugandan tabloid Red Pepper reported: “the rugger chick who carries a scar on the face and wears short, spiky dreadlocks explained that it was inevitable to quit Uganda, saying, “the men told me: Until you stop being a lesbian, we will continue to do this to you.”
Lilian Ikulmet is looking to ding a job and apply for a visa for her girlfriend. This news comes soon after David Cameron said he would cut aid to Uganda and other countries with homophobic laws unless they change their policies.
