Next year is a landmark for LGBT people, with 2017 marking 50 years since the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality.

To celebrate this milestone, the makers of a new BBC documentary are crowdsourcing photos, memories, film footage, historic documents, club flyers, outfits, protest banners, posters, music, diary entries and more to help tell the story of LGBT life in Britain from 1967 – 2016.

As well as creating a new documentary, your memories will also become part of an interactive archive of LGBT life, a powerful visual indicator of just how far we’ve come as a community in a relatively short space of time.

Why take part? It’s incredibly important to have the stories of queer women told because too often our histories are hidden, erased and overshadowed, and the production team want to make sure we have a voice in this project.

Personally, I’m not sure there’s much value in my angsty diary entries where I declared my undying love for my best friend and wrote terrible poetry about unrequited love, but there’s plenty more I could put in; the flag I draped around myself at my first Pride march maybe; the first DIVA I ever bought and read cover to cover more times than I could count; my “Great Minds Think A Dyke” t-shirt… little things helped me become the person I am today.
