Araf’s ‘A Gay Girl in Damascus’ blog attracted a worldwide following.

She was walking with a friend when three men took her.

A blogger calling herself Rania O. Ismail, who claims to be Araf’s cousin, wrote on Araf’s blog: “One of the men then put his hand over Amina’s mouth and they hustled her into a red Dacia Logan with a window sticker of [former president] Basel Assad.”

It is estimated that around 1,000 civilians have been killed during the recent protests.
