A-list stars Alison Moyet and Sophie Ward joined Angela Eagle MP and a packed out audience to watch some of the hottest female comics on the planet at the first ever Stonewall Comedy Gala, titled Girls’ Night Out.
Tickets were sold out well in advance for the LGB charity’s fundraiser at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre where comics such as Sarah Millican, Shappi Khorsandi and Maureen Younger gave their time for free to help Stonewall raise over £10,000 to fund their anti-bullying campaigns.
All money raised from the night went towards the Education for All programme that tackles homophobic bullying and helps schools celebrate different families.
Also performing on the night were Jen Brister, Susan Calman, Zoe Lyons, Leisa Rea, Suzi Ruffell and Rosie Wilby.
Stonewall Director of Fundraising Catherine Bosworth said: ‘We’re delighted that our Girls’ Night Out raised over £10,000 to help us fight against homophobic bullying in Britain’s schools. A full house had a great night and paved the way for us to do even more to support hundreds of thousands of young people – it really was the best show in town.’
Also celebrating during the evening was the team from hit lesbian lifestyle magazine g3 who launched their first paid-for issue. The magazine has been available as a free publication in gay pubs, clubs and cafes since 2001, but is making the giant leap to the newsstands this month.
The g3 team were primarily on hand to partner the event, but also to hand out copies of the new magazine. Sophie Ward took to twitter to say the mag was: “A great addition to the newsstands.”
