footballSteven Gerrard has been voted the ‘hottest player’ in the Premier League in a Gaydar poll.

Gerrard came out on top above his team-mates in an online survey hosted by Gaydar, the UK’s largest gay dating and lifestyle website.  The Liverpool FC captain is no stranger to his male fans, having once won a bet put to him by Tottenham Hotspur player Peter Crouch to sing at gay nightclub Garlands.  Crouch incidentally only won 2% of the vote, making him the ‘ugliest player’.

Other categories included ‘best legs’, ‘worst haircut’ and ‘hottest squad’.

Despite his recent hair transplant to cure his balding, 25-year-old Wayne Rooney still took a whopping 50% of the votes for worst haircut.  However he can rest assured that he is still a member of the ‘hottest squad’, with Manchester United pin ups Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Young helping to take the title home.

Worryingly, 12% of people who cast their vote also said that they would not feel safe attending a Premier League match due to homophobia, with a further 66% saying they did not ever attend football matches.

Although there are openly gay professional sportsmen in the form of Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas and cricketer Steven Davies, there are currently no openly gay football players in the top divisions of the English Premier League.
