YouTube is such a strong platform that every person on the planet probably knows at least one person who earns money by making YouTube content. Plenty of people all around the world are turning to the charms of YouTube, hoping to become the next big YouTuber.

But it might be challenging to be the next gay YouTube star as you have to follow certain rules and regulations. Take a look at the five most important things that you need to know before you start your LGBTQ YouTube channel:

1. Know your target audience

The first thing to know is you can’t please everyone. This means that you should never create content for your gay YouTube channel that will cater for everyone’s needs – this can easily backfire. Rather try to find your target audience – is it the young gay audience, people who’re into pop culture, drag, or gay guys  who like hearing and debating about the burning LGBTQ matters, events and happenings? Once you have that in place, it will be easier for you to create content for all of your viewers to enjoy equally.

2. Mind your aesthetics

It’s undeniable that at least some of your audience will focus on the look of your videos. It’s 2020, and it’s not really challenging to have a strong aesthetic game. First and foremost, make sure to have a catchy intro to your videos, and you can use a good YouTube intro maker for this. As far as editing is concerned, you can easily google and read the reviews of all the tools and apps that can help you bring your video idea to life. Finally, have a logo, and this is also something that can be made with the help of free tools such as Canva or Piktochart.

3. Think about what you’re talking about

The internet is a democracy, so everyone can express their opinion. But it would be very wise to think twice about what you’re going to talk about in your videos – you don’t want to be taken out of context. This is why you should always discuss your topics with someone and see if your opinions are harmless. Even if you think you have everything under control, think twice. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Another tip would be to tackle every issue from the positive side, not judge anyone but rather show people why they should be tolerant towards all LGBTQ+ issues, races and religious backgrounds equally.

4. Show who you are

There are plenty of people who start their YouTube channels without being completely comfortable going in front of the camera  and sharing their own stories. Showing who you are and what your background is matters a lot as your viewers will connect more to you and you will seem as someone who’s completely real and not just another face on the platform. Make jokes on your expense, show your vulnerabilities and be completely objective.

5. Monetise your channel

Once you start creating content and creating traffic on your YouTube page, it would be good to monetise it. You can earn from YouTube ads, but you can also land collaborations on the side. Don’t be scared to reach out to different companies and ask them to work together on something; in the beginning only small companies will agree to do this, but the point is in the baby steps. Be patient and everything will pay off.  Consequently, you will be able to create your own merchandise that you will be able to sell.

The content and how you approach your YouTube video depends greatly on the type of content you want to share to the world. This might be makeup tutorials, talking about different issues, having a comedy channel or even a fashion one.

Good luck!
