Screen Australia’s new initiative aims to bring more diversity to the screen.

Earlier this year, Screen Australia looked at diversity in Australian TV drama through the Seeing Ourselves report. It revealed that characters that identify as LGBTQI, along with those with a disability and those form non-Anglo Celtic backgrounds are underrepresented on screen.

Now, Screen Australia has introduced a new initiative called Seeing Ourselves: Developing the Developers. This new initiative aims to bring more diversity to the pool of story developers in the screen industry to more broadly reflect Australian society.

Seeing Ourselves: Developing the Developers is formatted as a practical 3 day workshop in Sydney that will run from 31 March to 2 April 2017.

The program will focus on development philosophies, methodologies and tools across fiction story platforms, as well as market context.

Participants will be required to prepare work ahead of and during the workshop. Screen Australia will meet with participants after the workshop to discuss goals and help unlock opportunities in the story development field.

Screen Australia will take on 10-12 successful applicants to be part of the program.

Applications are now open and the deadline for submissions is 2 February 2017. For more details and eligibility criteria click here.
