Sara Gilbert and her girlfriend Linda Perry are engaged to be married, Gilbert announced Monday on her US show, The Talk
Perry, a musician and producer, proposed to Gilbert about a week ago during an afternoon picnic in a park, she told her Talk co-hosts. “I’m sitting there listening and I’m kind of daydreaming and I’m thinking like, ‘If I ever proposed to her this would be an amazing way to do it,'” Gilbert said during Monday’s show.
Apparently she and Perry were on the same page. Perry had organized for a group of musicians to serenade the couple with their song, The Cure’s “Love Song,” during the picnic. Then she popped the question, using T-shirts to spell out “Will you marry me?”
The couple’s mothers and a few close friends were covertly watching from nearby, Gilbert said. Finally, Perry introduced musician John Waite, who played “Missing You,” another of the couple’s favorite songs (even though it’s about a failed romance).
“It’s the most amazing proposal ever,” according to Gilbert. And her response? “Well, yeah, after that spectacle!”
Gilbert has two children – Levi, 8, and Sawyer, 5 – with her ex, TV producer Alison Adler.
