
Rose’s character may be the first lesbian lead in any live-action superhero show, ever
The American television network CW has announced that out, lesbian actress Ruby Rose (Pitch Perfect, Orange Is The New Black) will play out, lesbian superhero, Batwoman.
“The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored,” wrote Rose on Instagram.
“I’m also an emotional wreck… because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on TV and felt alone and different.
“Thank you everyone. Thank you god.”
According to the DC Comics website, Rose will be playing the Kate Kane version of Batwoman, who:
“Armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.”

According to reports, the series is expected to drop sometime in late 2019/2020 — plenty of time to prepare our celebratory Batwoman outfits, right?
