Awards honored ABC’s “When We Rise” and Pulse Nightclub responder Dr. David Baker-Hargrove for Outstanding Support for LGBTQ Families.

On May 8 Family Equality Council hosted the annual “Night at the Pier,” at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers, to recognize individuals and companies who have made outstanding contributions to supporting the wellbeing of LGBTQ families. This year, the honorees included ABC’s groundbreaking miniseries When We Rise and Dr. David Baker-Hargrove, the Orlando, FL mental health practitioner who coordinated the LGBTQ health services’ response to the Pulse Nightclub shooting in June 2016.

The cast of When We Rise, including Emily Skeggs, opened the show and Rosie O’Donnell accepted the award on their behalf, which was presented by marriage equality pioneer Edie Windsor. Dr. David Baker-Hargrove was presented with the Hostetter-Habib Family Award, and guests and honorees were treated to performances by Tony nominees and Broadway musical stars.

Other attendees included: Joy Behar, Meredith Vieira, LGBTQ rights activist Edie Windsor, and her partner Judith M. Kasen-Windsor, writer and producer Isabel Rose, playwright Paula Vogel, whose lesbian-themed play Indecent is currently on Broadway, Chief Marketing Officer at Condé Nast Pamela Drucker Mann, Producer and more.
