If you attended Belfast Pride last year you’ll already be familiar with singer-songwriter Conleth Kane who hosted the main stage. Sadly, there was no Belfast Pride this year because…well, you know why.

But that hasn’t stopped the uber-talented Kane from releasing a new Pride anthem – Proud – and here at OutNewsGlobal HQ we can’t get enough of it. Perhaps there was some dust in the air when we watched the video, shot in London’s Old Compton Street, for the first time; what else could possibly explain the widespread misty-eyed response in our newsroom?

Sometimes the simplest of lyrics are the most poignant and Proud is no exception, fusing out and proud defiance with an inner strength and a beauty echoed by a hauntingly beautiful, building melody and a heart-tugging arrangement.

While Kane steals the show – it is, after all, his video – drag artist Margo Marshall’s portrayal of the rejected auditionee is outstanding, with sterling support by Caoimhe Garvey and Cassie Compton.

Proud features on Kane’s EP Liberty: click here for links to all the usual platforms.
