A tradition that started in Victorian times, Stir-Up Sunday is the last Sunday before advent when Christmas Puddings are made in advance preparation for Christmas.

Today, this ritual is still very much in evidence with Christmas Pudding and other seasonal bakes being rustled up but also it is a reminder to buy those all important advent calendars.

John Lewis report that their bakeware sales are up 49% compared to last year, with mixing bowl sales up 66%. Cake decorating is also very popular with sales with an increase of 70% compared to last year. 

With the final of the Great British Bake Off hitting our screens on Tuesday, there is even more reason why this year looks like it will be a bumper year for Stir-Up Sunday.
