The Royal Air Force has launched a trousers-only policy in an attempt to become more inclusive.

Women in the Royal Air Force have been banned from wearing skirts on parade so transgender personnel don’t feel excluded.

The trousers-only rule is believed to have been put in place last year due to an increase in transgender personnel, The Times reports.

It is believed the ban was discussed at a top level meeting of RAF officials, but the ban has yet to be enforced.

An RAF source said: “It’s about including people and encouraging diversity.”

But some servicewomen described the idea as “political correctness gone mad”.

An RAF spokesman said: “Uniform regulations, including dress for formal parades, are regularly reviewed.

“No decisions have been made to make any changes.”

Women make up about 14 per cent of the RAF’s 33,000 personnel.
