A poll published in the Washington Post has revealed that 53% of Americans support gay marriage – the highest result in a decade of polls conducted by the newspaper.
In 2004, the newspaper saw the lowest ever result in favour of gay marriage, with only 32% of respondents saying that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry.
In this year’s poll, 68% of those in favour of same-sex marriage were under 30, 65% were in their 30s, 52% were in their 40s and 33% were over 50.
