Mountain_Lake_Baptist_ChurchIn recent weeks, several videos of homophobia and anti-gay sentiment in American Churches have surfaced on the internet. Now a Maryland-based pastor has gone so far as to say he “kind of likes” the idea of killing LGBT people.
Blogger Jeremey Hooper reported and posted a soundclip online of pastor identified as Dennis Leatherman of the Mountain Lake Independent Baptist Church in Oakland, in a 50-minute sermon titled “Homosexuality and the Bible.”

In the sermon Leatherman can be heard saying: “To be…have a tendency to be effeminate or homosexual is just as wicked as to have a tendency to be a womanizer,” he continues: “Sinful nature does not justify sinful behavior. Now what is our take? What is our response?”

“First of all, there is a danger of reacting in the flesh, of responding not in a scriptural, spiritual way, but in a fleshly way. Kill them all. Right? I will be very honest with you. My flesh kind of likes that idea…but it grieves the Holy Spirit. It violates Scripture. It is wrong.”

Pastor Leatherman has since said that his words are being misunderstood and taken out of context by LGBT news sites.

In a statement posted on the home page of the church’s website, the pastor clarifies that thoughts of the “flesh,” in his faith, are the “fallen” and “sinful” part of human nature and he was actually condemning other pastors with anti-gay sermons.
