One person is dead and three others are injured after a shooting at a downtown gay Albany nightclub.
UPDATE: Police arrived at Rocks on Central Avenue around 2 a.m. Thursday Nov 24, after shots were fired.
Officers learned that four people had sustained gunshot wounds while inside the bar. A man was later pronounced dead. Three others have injuries that are not life-threatening.
The venue’s management describes the bar as “proudly gay owned and operated”.
They want to reassure people that this was an isolated incident, and not a random attack on the bar or its patrons.
No suspects have been identified. Albany Police say they are investigating the “isolated incident” as a homicide, not a hate crime.
“The APD assured me that this was not biased related but a personal issue between the people involved,” Michael Weidrich, executive director and CEO of the Pride Center of the Capital Region, said in a statement.
“Regardless, an act of violence happened in one of our community spaces and a life was lost in one of our sanctuaries,” he continued. “This has been a very trying year, with many obstacles and tragedies that have hit us all, especially in the last few weeks.”
The incident remains under investigation as police still do not have a potential suspect and the identity of the victims will not be released at this time.
