The news broadcast saw three minutes of indecent sex footage accidentally aired on CHCH-TV in Hamilton, Ontario, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The broadcast was also played in some homes in Canadian capital Ottowa. Mike Katrycz, the station’s vice president of news, was forced to issue an apology to viewers, explaining that the porn originated at a local cable company.
According to the new station, the wrong programming was inserted during a repair of cut cable lines. It took several minutes to take it off the air, since the problem originated offsite. Katrycz said: “In splicing together, unfortunately some inappropriate content went to air. Of course, we know there are kids out there, there are people who don’t want this in their homes and would never invite this into our homes.” Viewers took to Twitter to react to the gaffe, with one calling the Friday newscast “Morning Wood”, while another mistakenly thought “I woke up in the middle of a Mapplethorpe shoot”.
