In 2005, Nick Herbert became the first ever out, gay Conservative MP and he’s just been appointed as the UK’s Special LGBT Envoy, charged with promoting LGBT rights around the world. Next year he’ll be chairing the Global LGBT Conference in London and, in his first broadcast interview since his appointment, he tells us what he hopes to achieve in his new role, why Britain has a particular responsibility for global LGBT rights and how the Conservatives are no longer the anti-gay party.
