The 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang lists 13 out athletes – more than ever before
Featuring athletes across the competition’s different sports, this year’s Winter Olympics hosted in South Korea, also includes a number of out male athletes for the first time.
A list of LGBTQ Olympians was compiled by the sporting website Outsports with the help of Olympic historian, Tony Scupham-Bilton.
“This list includes athletes who are open publicly about their orientation (there has never been an openly transgender Olympic athlete), meaning they have discussed it at some point publicly”, said Outsports.
“We are aware there are other LGBT Winter Olympians who are out within their sport or team, but they have chosen not to discuss it publicly; these athletes are not on this list.”
Meet the LGBTQ Winter Olympians below – and make sure to give them all a follow!
Emilia Andersson Ramboldt – Sweden – Ice Hockey
Belle Brockhoff – Australia – Snowboarding
Off to Pyeongchang! Had such a rollercoaster of highs & lows this past year leading up to the games!😊 It's been 11 months but finished up my first race last weekend in Germany to get back in the swing of things. Got 3rd in time trials & finished up 8th. Took a few hard landings in the heats, flaring up my knee and causing pain in the last two rounds but I wanted to push through to prove to myself I can be competitive. It gave me confidence in what I'm capable of when I set my mind on it. Really looking forward to racing in front of the world! Love the sport I do! Thankyou for all your support! 🏂🤙
