carparkA man has been sentenced to seven years in jail after attacking a gay man in a car park.

Eighteen-year-old Adam Ayres from Leicester – who was 17 at the time – lured his 50-year-old victim to a car park, where he then assaulted him.

Ayres and three accomplices beat the man to the ground, fracturing his skull and causing head wounds which required 28 stitches.

Ayres initially contacted the man via a gay dating website.

Appearing at Leicester crown court, Ayres said he decided to attack him because he suspected he was a paedophile, but did not intend to hurt him so seriously. He claims to have been unaware that his friends were carrying weapons, and they they forced him into carrying out the attack.

Judge Sylvia De Bertodano told Ayres that he would have received an eight-year sentence if he had been 18 when he attacked the man.
