After posting anti-gay stickers around East London, 18-year-old Mohammed Hasnath has been charged with causing alarm and distress under Section 5 of the Public Order Act.
Hasnath has been bailed and is due to appear in court on the 1 of June. Hasnath’s stickers quickly rose to international visibility and created an outcry in the LGBT community, with gay blogs picking up on the story around the world. These stickers showed a rainbow with a thick black line over it declaring the area a ‘gay free zone’ with the motto ‘Arise and warn. Gay free zone. Verily Allah is severe in punishment’.
