We are now into week five of the COVID-19 lockdown and now the good weather has disappeared and the April showers have set in, WHAT IS THERE TO DO?
In week one everyone was into food buying and homeschooling. In week two the paint brushes came out, week three saw everyone become green-fingered and last week the paint brushes were given another outing, this time to pain the fence. I cannot recall another time when stockists had to ration fence paint!
I have been extremely busy getting stuck into DIY at both my own home and my boyfriend Ray’s, so this feature is about revamping your home furniture. I have been busy transforming my furniture from old to new by having the Essex Grey incorporated into my home not just on the walls but on furniture too.
If you have a piece of furniture that still has some life in it, why not transform it and if needed, accessorise it with new handles or upholster it with some new fabric? You don’t need to always think updating or revamping your home is expensive…it is sometimes just the price of a pot of paint!

Below is a simple pine untreated unit I bought some 20 years ago. It did not need any preparation so a chalk finish furniture paint in grey slate gave it a fabulous new look!
A built-in cabinet in my boyfriend’s lounge also had a transformation which, along with a new acrylic knob, gave it a new look.
These before and after photos of my dining table and chairs that were purchased 20 years ago look now like a brand new dining set. The top had to be coated with wax for extra protection.

And don’t forget, it is not just your furniture that can have a revamp. Banisters always start to go an off yellow after a period of time so why not give them a fresh white coat!
