Lesbian Box Office launches the inaugural LBO Script Development Award in association with the DIVA Literary Festival

We can’t get enough of Lesbian Box Office, the brand new channel dedicated to brilliant lesbian and bisexual content. It’s where we go to watch Different For Girls, one of the best queer web series on the net, which stars The L Word’s Rachel Shelly alongside DIVA Rising Star Victoria Broom, Her Story’s Caroline Whitney Smith and more.

Now LBO is on the hunt for more content, which is why they’ve set up the LBO Script Development Award, in association with the DIVA Literary Festival, to support emerging queer female voices.

It’s an impressive initiative and the lucky winner will receive £500 prize money, to buy some research and writing time, and the chance to be supported by a writer and producer who between them have commissioned, written and produced drama for Channel Four, ITV and the BBC.

Feeling inspired? Then make sure you enter by submitting a script proposal for either a television/web series or a feature film, which has a lesbian/bisexual narrative or puts the lesbian/bisexual experience at the heart of its content.

Submissions must include a short (2-3 page) outline; a brief mission statement (why you want to write this script) and a CV. Please do not send early drafts or finished scripts. This award is to develop a new idea.

The deadline for submissions is Friday 21 October 2017. Shortlisted applicants will be notified by Friday 27 October.

All shortlisted writers will then be invited to pitch in front of a live audience and a panel of judges, made up of lesbian creative professionals, as part of the Page to Screen session.

Judges will include: former C4 Commissioning Editor and writer/Executive Producer of Different for Girls, Jacquie Lawrence; writer of stage and screen and DIVA magazine film critic, Rena Brannan alongside the director of Desert Hearts and The Women of Brewster Place, Donna Deitch.

The winner of the award will be announced at the end of the DIVA Literary Festival.

LBO will manage the script development process with the writer and will retain the right to option the finished script.

Please note, the LBO Script Development Award is only open to those attending the DIVA Literary Festival. It is open to experienced and new writers from the lesbian, bisexual and trans community.

Please send submissions with contact details to: lesbianboxoffice@gmail.com

The DIVA Literary Festival and Awards will include panels, workshops, talks and interviews. They take place 3-5 November at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham NEC. Book now at divaliteraryfestival.com.
