A girl aged just EIGHT has reportedly been arrested for having romantic relationships with other girls.

Jinja Police Child Family Protection said that they arrested the girl after a neighbour told police that the child “repeatedly lured her friends to a farm near her house, where the girls would engage in inappropriate behaviour with one another.”

Catherine Wobuyaga, the officer in charge, said the Ugandan minor is now in police custody after she apparently confessed that she has been “involved” with fellow girls.

All Africa reports authorities allege that the girls would demonstrate various sexual acts in front of each other.

Ms Wobuyaga said parents should watch out for adults who lure underage children into “illicit relationships”.

Victor Odero, Amnesty International’s East Africa Campaigner said : “The girl should be immediately and unconditionally released if she is still in detention.

“What she needs is protection and respect for her privacy, rather than being treated as a criminal.”

Homosexuality still remains illegal in Uganda.
