A lesbian couple are suing a hotel in Brighton after they were allegedly turned away for being gay.
Rebecca Nash, 22, and Hope Stubbings, 19, arrived at the Brunswick Hotel having booked a room over the phone.
When they got to reception, the manager told them that they could no longer have a room and that the hotel only provided lodging for heterosexual couples and families.
The couple are now bringing a case against the hotel. If the manager is found guilty of turning them away on the grounds of sexual orientation, he will be subject to legal action under the rules of the Equality Act 2010.
Speaking to local paper the Brighton Argus, the manager insisted: “This is Brighton, we have taken hundreds of gay people here.
“This is really upsetting. The only time we send people away is if they are loud or hooligans.”
