We are very pleased to announce that food blogger and campaigner Jack Monroe has joined OutNews Global as our new Arts and Culture Editor.

Jack Monroe is a prominent food writer, gaining celebrity from their unique blog about existing on the breadline. As well as confronting us with some of our mostly deeply held prejudices about class and food, Monroe challenges us to think another way about gender.

They have more than held their own on BBC1’s Question Time and gone head-to-head in live TV debates with the likes of Michael Portillo. They were ranked eighth in The Independent on Sunday’s 2015 Rainbow List of the most influential LGBT people in the UK.

Monroe has been an active campaigner for a number of causes in the UK, particularly those around poverty and hunger, campaigning alongside organisations such as Unite, The Trussell Trust, Child Poverty Action Group and Oxfam.

Commenting on her appointment Monroe said: “I’m looking forward to bringing queer arts and culture to the spotlight, and celebrating all our great LGBTQ artists.”

OutNews Global founder Linda Riley said: “Jack is a passionate writer and will bring immense experience, flair, imagination and formidable energy to their new role with OutNews.”
