honduras-flagMembers of Honduras’ gay and lesbian community gathered in the capital city of Tegucigalpa to protest the murders of 58 gays and lesbians in the country this year.

“[We want] the murders solved and justice done,” spokesperson Jose Zambrano told reporters. Other protesters claimed that the gay community is subject to daily discrimination, harassment, arrest, torture and murder.

Since the overthrow of former President Mel Zelaya, Honduras has become one of the most dangerous countries in Central America, with an average of 20 homicides a day.
