After the death of Stuart Walker in an attack at the weekend, a small number of individuals took to Twitter posting extremely homophobic remarks.

One such post read: “I think it’s great what happened to Stuart walker better dead now than infecting people with #Aids.”

Other messages posted were more extreme and seemed directly aimed at the victim and his loved ones.

The offending accounts appear to have recently been deleted, after comments sparked offense and anger in the community.  It is not known who removed the accounts at this time.

Although a small group of users have been abusive, the majority are still paying their respects online to Stuart Walker.

In response to the abuse on Twitter, author Paul Burston wrote: “Where does this hatred come from?”

Formal complaints have allegedly been made to the police regarding the online abuse.

Police are still investigating the motive for his murder.
