hackerAnonymous, the online hackers activist movement (also known as ‘hactivists’) have successfully crashed the website of notoriously controversial Westboro Baptism Church.

The independent Baptist church, headed by disbarred lawyer Fred Phelps, has a main domain GodHatesFags.com, and runs a number of other delightful sites such as, JewsKilledJesus.com and PriestsRapeBoys.com. Anonymous has suspended all activity on all of these sites.

It is believed that the action comes in response to a hate campaign that the church had embarked upon against the group. Allegedly, Anonymous recently sent an open letter declaring war on the church should they fail to cease their homophobic campaigns or “the damage incurred will be irreversible.” It has since come to light that the church may have written the letter themselves as a publicity stunt.

Nevertheless, Anonymous announced the hack yesterday, with another letter. It begins with an address to the church, “If you’re reading this, it means that Anonymous has lost its patience with you, likely because you’ve threatened us again after we denied you a war.”

They continue: “Your continued biting of the Anonymous hand… has earned you a swift and emotionless bitchslap… Take this defacement as a simple warning: go away. The world (including Anonymous) disagrees with your hateful messages… God hates fags: assumption. Anonymous hates leeches: fact.”
