There’s more to city life in Great Britain than London. Whilst the nation’s capital city is pretty spectacular, venturing further afield is definitely worth it.
Two hot destinations that need to go on your ‘must visit’ list are Manchester in the North West of England and Brighton which is just a hop, skip and a jump from London.
MANCHESTER
Northern hospitality is alive and well in the North West of England. Manchester is one of the most thriving cities in Great Britain and home to Canal Street, the epicenter of gay Manchester.
Just 2 hours north from London, Manchester has a lot going for it including some of the best shopping and nightlife in the whole of Britain or you can fly direct into Manchester as an alternative to London and in less than 30 minutes you can be in the city centre, taking in the sights and sounds of one of the liveliest LGBT communities in the country.

For a boutique hotel stay in the thick of the action on Canal Street, check out Velvet Hotel. Just a couple of minutes’ walk from public transport this 4-star accommodation won’t disappoint. Manchester has so many options when it comes to shopping. If you’re looking for outlets and designer names Manchester Arndale and the Trafford Centre will have you spoiled for choice. Vintage threads more your thing? The Northern Quarter is where it’s at. You’ll also find great places to eat and drink here.
BRIGHTON
This seaside city claims the most same-sex households in the whole of Great Britain and is well known for its extravagant Pride events and lively nightlife.
Now if you’re expecting a beach like the ones we’re accustomed to back home, you might be disappointed. The pebbled beach and Brighton Pier are no Bondi but there is still heaps to keep you occupied!

Where to shop…
The Lanes are the place to go for shopping in Brighton. While the Lanes are home to antique and jewelry stores, it’s North Laine which is a little more bohemian and most to 300 independent shops selling everything from vegetarian shoes to vintage fashion. The North Laine is also home to vibrant street art. Look out for Banksy’s ‘Kissing Policeman Here you’ll find antiques, jewellery and vintage shops to mooch around in. When you’re done shopping you’ll find plenty of spots for a cup of tea and a slice of cake, or something stronger at one of the local watering holes.
