In a case similar to the Pushkin Chandra murder in 2004, Bimal Gurung, who lived in south Delhi’s Ber Sarai area, was murdered because the culprits thought he was loaded with cash. His decomposed body was found at his flat on September 6.

Police said Gurung, a regular at gay parties, had met Nand Kishore — one of the accused — after one such party in Greater Kailash three months back.

“Gurung started paying Nand Kishore for sex. Impressed with Gurung’s lavish lifestyle, Kishore thought he was rich and decided to kill him, hoping to get a large sum from his bank accounts,” Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south), said.

Kishore roped in his friends Dalip and Pradeep Kumar. First, he stole Gurung’s wallet, which had his ATM card. On September 3, after a party in Gurung’s flat, the three men tied him up and strangled him.

“But they were shocked to find only 49 Rupees in his bank account when they went to withdraw money from an ATM after committing the murder,” said Sharma.

Police arrested all three on Tuesday. “All of them have criminal records. Two of them were jailed in the past for killing a man who was interested in Kishore’s girlfriend,” said Sharma.
