Lady Gaga has joined forces with American retail giant Target, in whose stores she will release a limited edition of gay anthem, Born This Way. Her decision comes with the promise that Target company bosses will pledge financial support to LGBT groups and charities.
Target have not always presented such a liberal front to the world, having previously donated corporate funds to a political committee that supported (failed) Minnesotan governor candidate Tom Emmer. Emmer had previously, through his campaign, made a donation to a Christian organization that advocated death and violence to homosexuals, and had himself proposed an amendment to ban gay marriage.
Lady Gaga told Billboard that “Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they’ve made in the past.” She continued, “Our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they’ve made supporting those groups.”
