gagasmallLady GaGa has announced that profits from a remix of her gay anthem Born This Way will benefit the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

The star debuted the country version of the song via Twitter. Its new lyrics include the lines: “If I wanna make it country, baby, it’s OK/ ‘Cause I was born, I was born, I was born this way/  from London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave.”

Her support for the gay community is well known. In 2010 she wore a dress made out of raw meat as a protest against the US military’s ‘don’t ask don’t tell’ policy. And last month the singer severed ties with US retailer Target after it was revealed they funded anti gay politicians and groups. “Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform,” she said in a statement. “Our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they’ve made supporting those groups.”
