
Members of the European Parliament are calling on Sweden’s governing coalition to repeal the continued forced sterilization of gender reassignment patients.
It was announced last week that despite a move to repeal the law, including support from 90% of Swedish MPs, mandatory sterilization will continue.
Swedish Green Party MP Agneta Luttrop called the law outdated, arguing it should have been changed long ago.
“It’s a macabre law. It’s not dignified that in 2012 someone should be forcibly sterilized,” she told TT, questioning what good will come from additional examination of the issue.
LGBT campaign group ALL OUT have organized an online signature petition against the law, to be sent to Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt,
