Family Guy has finally decided to answer one of the biggest fan-questions of all time; even bigger than why Lois stays with Peter or why they haven’t gotten rid of Meg yet.

Is Stewie gay? It’s an odd question because Stewie is a baby so…in any other world it would be seriously messed up to even be speculating about his sexuality but then again, this is Family Guy and shock is a major part of the appeal.

It’s been announced that Sir Ian McKellen is set to guest star as Stewie’s therapist in an episode set to air next month.

Executive producer Rich Appel confirmed that the character will finally have his sexuality addressed, after years of insinuation and innuendo.

Appel told TVLine: “It’s just a two-character episode with Stewie in his therapist’s office for the first time.

“It’s a wonderful episode, and Seth’s performance is spectacular.

“They delve into all sorts of things you would think would come up in a therapy session with a boy like Stewie.

“When Stewie’s with his therapist, they pretty immediately address questions of sexuality. The episode covers that, and then goes to deeper issues for Stewie.”

The show is titled ‘Send in Stewie, Please’ and will air on March 11.

Previous plans for the character to be openly gay were shelved in the show’s early days in 2009 when Seth MacFarlane admitted the idea of outing a one-year-old was maybe a bit much even for them.

Maybe the netowrk and show makers hope casting gay god McKellen will prevent any backlash. That remains to be seen but if they had a qualm about Stewie being openly gay as a baby, why are they still holding off with Roger the Alien, their sexually ambiguous alien in sister show, Family Guy? Maybe he’ll finally come out next.
