Two more reasons we can’t wait for the new series.
Different For Girls is seriously addictive viewing. It’s all about the interlocking lives and loves of a group of lesbian and bi women in London, it’s directed by the legendary Campbell X AND it’s got a stellar cast including The L Word’s Rachel Shelley, Death In Paradise’s Nimmy March and DIVA Choice award-winner Victoria Broom.
We’ve already binge-watched the first series (if you haven’t, then get cracking here) and we can’t wait for the next installment. And now, we’ve got two more reasons to get excited.
First of all, actor, presenter, author and DIVA 250 Ally Of The Year Denise Welch is joining the cast, in principal. The star of Boy Meets Girl, Coronation Street and Waterloo Road will play Maeve, a woman who comes out in her fifties much to the bemusement of her sister, played by the fantastic Charlie Hardwick.
Denise told us:
“As a huge fan of the last series, I’m thrilled to be part of the new series of Different for Girls. Writer Jacquie Lawrence has created the character of Auntie Maeve especially for me. I’m excited to be working with my old mate Charlie Hardwick and the rest of the talented cast and creative team. “
That’s not the only new face we’ll be seeing in the next series. Alicya Eyo, star of Bad Girls, Emmerdale and Little Boy Blue, is also joining DFG, in principal. She’ll be playing a lesbian lawyer, whose career could be compromised by her interest in a female client.
Alicya revealed:
“I’m over the moon to be joining the Different For Girls cast, and really looking forward to working with the talented people behind it all. Having seen the series so far it will be really interesting to see how the stories progress in the coming series and to be part of that”.
BAFTA-winning writer and executive producer Jacquie Lawrence is also thrilled about the new additions to the cast.
“To have these two established British actresses joining the cast of Different for Girls is a real coup. They bring a wealth of experience and talent and they both shine fiercely bright in everything they do. They are also amongst the funniest actresses I’ll ever have the honour of writing for”.
It’s so important to see our stories onscreen and the lacklustre representation of lesbians and bisexual women in mainstream media isn’t enough.
