The US actress had been rushed to hospital with a suspected stroke.

In a tragic turn of events Debbie Reynolds, 84, has died a day after the death of her daughter, Carrie Fisher.

Her son Todd Fisher revealed on Wednesday evening how his mother had been shattered with grief since his sister’s death the previous day.

According toTMZ, the morning of her death, she told him: ‘I miss her so much, I want to be with Carrie.”

“The only thing we’re taking solace in is that what she wanted to do was take care of her daughter, which is what she did best,” he added.

She was perhaps most famous for playing Kathy Selden in 1952 musical Singin’ In The Rain alongside Gene Kelly.

Last year, Reynolds received an honorary Oscar known as the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award – but was too ill to attend the ceremony.

Tributes started poured in for the actress.“So heartsick. Debbie went to be with Carrie. It’s such a devastating 1, 2 punch,” tweeted Debra Messing. Reynolds played Messing’s mother on the sitcom Will & Grace. “She was my ‘mom’ for years & I loved her dearly. A legend.”

William Shatner wrote: “Debbie Reynolds was one of the last of Hollywood Royalty. It breaks my heart that she is gone. I’d hoped that my grieving was done for 2016.”
