17-24-30_Logo17-24-30, the charity which was set up to organise the annual London Vigil against Hate Crime has confirmed that this year’s vigil will take place on Saturday 20th October 2012, from 7pm to 9pm.

The first London Vigil against Hate Crime took place in October 2009 after the death of Ian Baynham who was homophobically abused and  assaulted in Trafalgar Square. This took place two weeks after Ian died and was attended by 10,000 people with messages of support from around the world. It’s now an annual event in London with similar vigil events taking place around the UK and abroad as part of the International Day of Hope and Remembrance for all victims of hate crime.

An application to use Trafalgar Square has been submitted to the GLA Squares Team, and preparations are being made for this years event.

Mark Healey, event organiser said: “This year London is an international focal point with visitors joining us from around the globe.  It is important all communities and cultures work together with mutual respect. 17-24-30 encourages everyone to think about those we have lost through acts of hate, and unite to state clearly that there is no place for hate in our communities.  We will continue to raise our voices until this on-going problem is resolved.”
