sacredcandlesThe Church of Scotland yesterday voted to remove a two-year-old ban on the ordination of openly gay ministers.

The ban was introduced as an attempt to prevent the ordination of Rev Scott Rennie in Aberdeen.

Yesterday the Church’s General Assembly voted 351 to 294 to overturn the ban.

The Church has decided to commission a report on the issue of homosexuality and the Christian Church, to be presented to the assembly in 2013.

Backers of the ban on gay clergy have warned that many worshippers will be discouraged from attending church now it has been scrapped.
