The Icon Awards celebrate all those championing diversity across the country.

Last year’s awards ceremony saw some of Scotland’s most inspirational people awarded for their dedication to gay rights including cyclist Graeme Obree, who won Sporting Icon of the Year, and Jennie Robertson who was named Icon of the Year.

The Icon Awards welcome nominations from the whole Scottish community to truly acknowledge the great work being done north of the border. These include any individual or business, regardless of a nominee’s sexuality, gender, ethnicity, disability, age, education, race or religion.

A committee of respected individuals has been appointed, and will work hard to ensure no stone is uncovered, and no group goes unnoticed far and wide across Scotland.

Scott Barclay, chair of the Icon Awards, said: “We are absolutely delighted to bring back the Icon Awards after a triumphant ceremony last year where we celebrated the true Icons of our generation.

“We are very proud to live in such a progressive country such as Scotland however we are only too aware that not everyone around the world is as lucky as us. After the tragic events in Orlando, the LGBTI community around the world felt the pain and sorrow of our brothers and sisters across the Atlantic. It’s important that the world knows Scotland not only tolerates diversity but we celebrate it and we stand shoulder to shoulder with everyone around the world who champions diversity.

“By our visibility, by showing we are true to ourselves and by showing we are proud of who we are we will show young people growing up in Scotland that they don’t have to put up with homophobic or trans bullying. We will show people that there is nothing wrong with being different, diversity is what makes this country great and we all have our role to play.”

Voting is taking place online until 31 August and finalists will be revealed at an exclusive party in Glasgow in September.
