profile-pic-willie-rennie-mp-webThe Catholic Church in Scotland has been vocal in its condemnation of gay marriage, but Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie has urged the Government not to be swayed by their hostility. The Bishop of Paisley, Philip Tartaglia, tipped to become the next Archbishop of Glasgow, claimed that more than half a million Catholics would cease to vote for the SNP if marriage equality becomes enshrined in law.

Cardinal Keith O’Brien said the change would be a “grotesque subversion of a universally-accepted human right” and that gay parents “cannot adequately bring up a child”.
The Scottish government is holding a 14-week consultation on the issue.
